Yudi Eko Santosa's determination, perseverance, and willingness to take risks have led to the success of his wood processing business. Exiting his job after 17 years of service with Perhutani, Yudi founded PT Kaytama Sentra Delta in Ciamis, West Java. Under this banner, Indonesian wood products have penetrated the export market, reaching numerous countries. Commencing his business journey in 2014, Yudi decided to leave his comfort zone and employment. After assessing the potential of wood as a raw material, he established a wood sawmill business in Majenang, Central Java, in collaboration with a colleague. Over time, Yudi recognized the significant business potential in processing wood, which was previously sold in its entirety only in the Ciamis region. From its humble beginnings with two people, Kaytama now employs 13 workers. Yudi emphasizes that their business concept contributes to the income of the local community. Through self-directed learning, he mastered the intricacies of the export process to introduce his products globally. Fortunately, this effort paid off, enabling him to export his products to 17 countries, serving 35 clients, all managed from his village office.
Expressing gratitude, Yudi states, "We have exported processed wood to various countries such as Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the USA, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Slovakia, Greece, Ukraine, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE." His business has flourished to encompass three divisions, achieving an annual turnover of USD 2.79 million (equivalent to IDR 44 billion) in 2023. Yudi adheres to the principle of "Ndeso Rasa Bule," signifying a rural background far from the metropolitan hustle of Jakarta. Kaytama's product range includes Exterior Decking, Structural Engineered Timber Products, Solid Timber Panel, and Industrial Components. All products have obtained the Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK) certificate, and Kaytama serves as the official representative of an Australian company. This success showcases Yudi's commitment to rural entrepreneurship and sustainable wood production, emphasizing his motto, "Ndeso Rasa Bule."
