In an effort to stimulate the domestic economy, Indonesia continues to optimize its maritime industry. PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) collaborates with various maritime stakeholders to discuss the progress of Indonesia's maritime industry. Arisudono Soerono, CEO of IDSurvey/BKI, emphasizes BKI's focus on joining the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), maintaining a white-list status in Tokyo MoU, sustainability, and enhancing services in the maritime industry. Arisudono highlights BKI's ongoing process of becoming a member of IACS, with the status of an applicant as of November 2023. The expectation is for positive outcomes by the end of the current year or early next year. He underscores the global emphasis on sustainability in economic, social, and environmental aspects, with the maritime sector playing a pivotal role, especially for Indonesia as an archipelagic nation contributing significantly to global trade.
The Director of Operations at BKI, R. Benny Susanto, shares the company's developments and focus for 2024. He outlines BKI's support for advancing sustainable Indonesian shipping, including energy efficiency targets for Indonesian-flagged vessels, improved safety standards, achieving Net Zero Emission, and a roadmap for Dual Fuel and Ship Recycling. Additionally, BKI aims to enhance international quality standards collaboratively, raise awareness of international maritime regulations, and minimize risks for internationally sailing ships. This concerted effort aligns with Indonesia's maritime relevance, given that 80% of international trade is transported via maritime channels. The maritime sector's crucial role in the global economy underscores the significance of sustainable practices. Indonesia, being an archipelagic nation, is particularly poised to collaborate towards achieving sustainability in the maritime industry. As the maritime industry contributes substantially to Indonesia's economy, the collaboration between BKI and various stakeholders emphasizes the importance of working collectively for sustainable development. The optimization of the maritime industry not only fosters economic growth but also ensures environmentally friendly and sustainable practices, contributing to Indonesia's position in the international maritime landscape.
