LPEI Allocates IDR 500 Billion for the Development of Labuan Bajo Tourism Infrastructure

The Indonesian Ministry of Finance, via the Indonesian Export Financing Agency (LPEI), is actively boosting the national tourism potential, with Labuan Bajo as a key focus, designated a National Strategic Tourism Area since 2017. This effort is strengthened by a IDR 500 billion financing and credit guarantee agreement with PT Indonesia Ferry Properti (IFPRO), earmarked for essential tourism infrastructure development, including piers, marinas, hotels, and commercial plazas. The Labuan Bajo project signifies not only the transformation of the destination but also contributes to a broader strategy aiming to elevate tourism standards across Indonesia. Labuan Bajo, located in East Nusa Tenggara, is among the five Super Priority Tourism Destinations recognized by the Indonesian government, reflecting a commitment to enhance the quality and accessibility of the area. Renowned for its natural beauty, Labuan Bajo attracts both domestic and international tourists, making comprehensive infrastructure development crucial for sustaining the tourism sector in the region. The tourism industry, especially with the influx of international visitors, has been a significant contributor to Indonesia's foreign exchange earnings. Improving the quality and capacity of destinations like Labuan Bajo is expected not only to increase visitor numbers but also to enhance their overall experiences.

Ferry Snyders, CEO of PT IFPRO, welcomed the collaboration, expressing optimism that the financing and credit guarantee facilities would fortify the company's financial structure and significantly support the development of Labuan Bajo's Integrated Marina Area. He hopes that enhanced infrastructure will attract more international tourists, solidifying Indonesia's position as a global tourist destination. Beyond Labuan Bajo, LPEI is implementing six additional Special Export Assignment Programs, covering sectors from supporting export-oriented SMEs to developing tourism in other special economic zones. These initiatives underscore the government's commitment to fostering economic growth through export diversification and the development of vital sectors, including tourism. With integrated efforts and a clear strategy, the transformation of Labuan Bajo and other Indonesian destinations into global highlights is no longer a mere aspiration. Well-planned investment in tourism infrastructure is poised not only to enhance tourist appeal but also to provide sustainable economic benefits to local communities, projecting a new image for Indonesia globally.
