Cirebon Regency is actively establishing itself as a prominent mango-producing center in West Java, showcasing remarkable growth. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), five areas in Cirebon Regency have become pivotal in mango production, namely Lemahabang, Palimanan, Astanajapura, Susukan Lebak, and Greged. Throughout 2023, these regions exhibited substantial mango yields, with Lemahabang producing 8,450 tons, Astanajapura 4,780 tons, Palimanan 4,971 tons, Susukan Lebak 3,075 tons, and Greged 2,972 tons. Emphasizing the commitment to enhance mango farming productivity, Imron Rosyadi, the Regent of Cirebon, stated that these efforts aim to position Cirebon Regency as a leader in the export market. "In West Java, Cirebon Regency stands out as the best mango producer. Several mango varieties are highly sought after by consumers, both domestically and internationally," expressed Imron in Cirebon on Thursday (1/18/2024). Imron highlighted the discovery of a new mango variety named Roman Ayu a few years ago, demonstrating the local farmers' innovative spirit. According to Imron, Roman Ayu boasts larger sizes compared to other varieties, motivating farmers to innovate and produce superior mangoes. He emphasized that mangoes with high quality are more export-friendly. Alongside focusing on quantity, the authorities stress the importance of farmers producing the best quality mangoes.
The local government envisions the Ministry of Agriculture establishing a mango seedling center in Cirebon Regency. Despite the high mango production figures, only a portion manages to penetrate the export market, while the rest fulfills local market demands. Imron specified that Gedong Gincu, a particular mango variety, enjoys significant popularity, and the government will consistently encourage its production. Cirebon Regency's dedication to mango cultivation and innovation reflects the region's aspiration to maintain its reputation as a leading mango producer, contributing to both domestic and international markets. The request for the establishment of a mango seedling center underscores the commitment to sustainable and quality mango production.
