The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has extended an invitation to investors and business players to participate in the Bali International Airshow 2024, scheduled to take place at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport from September 18 to 21, 2024. The event aims to highlight the prowess of the Indonesian aviation and air defense industries, marking the country's first airshow in three decades. Jodi Mahardi, Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination at the ministry, emphasized the strategic significance of Indonesia's geographical location, projecting it as a future aviation hub for Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. Factors contributing to this projection include connectivity potential, cost advantages, and the quality of maintenance, repair, and operation (MRO) services in Indonesia.
Indonesia's aviation industry is positioned as a core economic pillar, anticipated to play a vital role in realizing the Golden Indonesia (2045 Vision). Currently serving 194 million passengers annually, with 33 million international passengers, Indonesia boasts 492 airports, 47 of which are international. The industry involves 25 active operators handling approximately 1.7 million tons of cargo per year, alongside 466 Indonesian Air Force aircraft, including 78 fighter jets and 191 helicopters. The Indonesian aerospace and defense market holds significant economic potential, driven by strong foreign tourism and the government's emphasis on enhancing defense and security capabilities. With an expected annual growth rate of 5 percent over the next five years, the aviation sector presents various opportunities for stakeholders. Indonesia holds the fourth position globally in the air travel market, offering civil aviation prospects and robust growth drivers. The government focuses on tourism, evident in initiatives like the '10 New Balis' program, targeting the growth of the middle-income population, increased economic activity, and mobility through air travel. Furthermore, there is a commitment to environmental sustainability with the accelerated development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The government prioritizes the right feedstock for SAF, including strengthening the utilization of used cooking oil. The Bali International Airshow 2024 provides a dedicated platform for participants to showcase products, services, and expertise, fostering collaboration and unveiling opportunities within the Indonesian aviation industry. Investors are urged to attend, recognizing the potential for growth and development in this vital sector.
