The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Sanur Health, the first international standard Health SEZ in Indonesia, aims to attract investments totaling IDR 20 trillion by the year 2045. Christine Hutabarat, CEO of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour, stated that the presence of SEZ Sanur, equipped with high-class and state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, aims to draw patients who previously sought medical treatment abroad. The estimated total number of patients is expected to range from 123,000 to 240,000 people by 2030. Anticipating a reduction in Indonesian patients seeking medical treatment abroad, it is predicted to save foreign exchange reserves with an estimated total of IDR 86 trillion and an additional IDR 19.6 trillion from 2022 to 2045. The future vision for this zone is to become the leading Medical & Wellness Tourism Destination in Southeast Asia, targeting investments ranging from IDR 15 to IDR 20 trillion, as mentioned in the official statement on Tuesday, January 16.
If these targets are met, the existence of SEZ Sanur is expected to have a multiplier effect and positively impact the national GDP, estimated to increase to IDR 80.7 trillion. Christine also mentioned that SEZ Sanur aims to employ approximately 18,375 workers, representing a 2,069% increase compared to a scenario without SEZ Sanur. She emphasized, "SEZ Sanur is expected to be a locomotive for national economic growth through tourism and health, building a sustainable future for the upcoming generations. We are optimistic that the development of SEZ Sanur will add value to Indonesia." As information, SEZ Sanur is a strategic initiative to optimize the potential of the Grand Inna Bali Beach area covering 41.6 hectares, transforming it into a "World Class Wellness & Tourism Destination" with integrated facilities. Facilities include 5-star hotel accommodations, an Ethnomedicinal Botanical Garden, an International Convention Centre capable of accommodating up to 5,000 people, commercial areas, SME centers, restaurants, and various other amenities. The Health Tourism sector is seen as a new potential that can provide solutions for the Indonesian population and elevate Medical & Wellness Tourism Indonesia internationally. The development of SEZ Sanur is expected to diversify and accelerate Indonesia's economic growth. It is noteworthy that Bali's selection as the location for SEZ Health and Tourism not only provides opportunities for patients and visitors to receive world-class healthcare but also maximizes Bali's beauty, historical richness, and culture as a tourist destination. Various conveniences will be available at SEZ Sanur, including facilities and permits for the practice of foreign healthcare professionals, fiscal and customs facilities for medical equipment, certified drug use, and immigration services for patients and their families.
