The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, announced that the Ministry of ESDM successfully maintained investments in the energy and mineral resources sector, with a 2023 investment realization of USD 30.3 billion, marking an 11% increase from 2022. During a press conference at the Ministry of ESDM in Jakarta on Monday (15/1/2024), Minister Arifin stated that the oil and gas (Migas) sector dominated with a share of 15.6%, followed by minerals and coal (minerba) at 7.46%, EBTKE (New and Renewable Energy) at 1.5%, and electricity at 5.8%. This positive trend reflects a robust performance in 2018-2019. In 2020, the investment realization experienced a decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, recovery efforts started in 2021-2022, resulting in a significant surge in 2023, reaching USD 30.1 billion, an 11% increase from 2022.
In terms of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) sector, Minister Arifin highlighted that the 2023 realization exceeded the target, reaching IDR 300.3 trillion, or 116% of the targeted IDR 259.2 trillion. The Migas sector contributed significantly with IDR 117 trillion, while other sectors also made substantial contributions. Minister Arifin explained that the minerba sector, driven by increased global demand and commodity prices, played a vital role in this achievement over the past two years. Looking ahead to 2024, the Ministry of ESDM aims for an investment target of IDR 227.3 trillion. This proactive approach is taken to anticipate the ongoing global fluctuations in the value of ESDM commodities. Regarding the minerba sector, Minister Arifin emphasized the improvement in governance through the Mineral and Coal Information System (SIMBARA) ecosystem. SIMBARA, a virtual application for monitoring PNBP and minerba trade, has integrated coal and is expected to include nickel and tin in 2024. The benefits of SIMBARA include optimizing state revenues, enhancing compliance among business players, and improving monitoring effectiveness among ministries and institutions. Minister Arifin stressed the importance of a unified minerba data to avoid misinformation and ensure effective policy implementation.
