Boosting UMKM Exports: 149 Revenue-Generating Villages Expected to Drive East Java’s Exports in 2024

The performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) exports in East Java (East Java) is anticipated to see a surge, thanks to the expansion of revenue-generating villages reaching 149 throughout 2023. Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa is actively fostering the Revenue-Generating Village Program, aimed at unleashing the potential of local commodities and propelling the performance of UMKM exports in East Java. The collaboration between the Revenue-Generating Village Program, the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI), and the Revenue Pendulum Village, in partnership with Bank East Java, remains pivotal to Khofifah's strategy. East Java boasts the highest number of revenue-generating villages nationally, contributing 25% to the total of 613 such villages in Indonesia in 2023. These villages have been instrumental in boosting the export of key commodities like Bondowoso Coffee, Sumenep Moringa Leaves, Blitar Jimbe Drums, Situbondo Vaname Shrimp, and Sidoarjo Seaweed.

Governor Khofifah emphasizes the intensive coaching provided to business actors under the Revenue-Generating Village and Revenue Pendulum Village Programs. This guidance aims to enhance product quality, manage finances effectively, impart marketing knowledge, and facilitate export financing. Khofifah expresses optimism, stating, "With the number of revenue-generating villages in East Java, I am confident it will be a catalyst for our export performance." The collaborative effort involving the East Java Provincial Government, District/City Governments, LPEI, Bank East Java, and business actors has been instrumental in shaping these programs. In November 2023, the non-oil and gas export index in East Java witnessed a month-to-month increase of 1.36%, totaling USD 2.02 billion. Khofifah highlights East Java's significant contribution, constituting 8.6% of the national export value. The Governor's proactive initiatives in harnessing the export potential of revenue-generating villages underscore a commitment to fostering economic growth and enhancing the role of UMKM in the global market.
