Sidoarjo Cosmetic Export to Malaysia Valued at IDR 25 Billion

Sidoarjo celebrates its inaugural cosmetic export to Malaysia, marking a significant milestone with a total value of IDR 25 billion. The export, facilitated by the Ministry of Trade and Sidoarjo Regency, signifies the region's foray into the international cosmetic market. Director-General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, Didi Sumedi, highlighted the current 5.3% growth in Indonesia's cosmetic exports, attributing it to the essential nature of these products in daily life. Despite global economic challenges, Didi remains optimistic, projecting a robust domestic economic growth of 5% to 5.2% in 2024. The exported local beauty products, valued at 7 million Malaysian Ringgit, equivalent to more than IDR 23 billion to IDR 25 billion, emphasize the unique demand and characteristics of cosmetic items. Didi stressed the consistent need for cosmetics akin to daily consumables like food and beverages. The cosmetic shipment, packed in four containers, was dispatched from PT Wahana Kosmetika Indonesia in the Gedangan area of Sidoarjo. Didi underscored the sector's growth, with cosmetic demand expanding by 5.53%, signaling a positive trend for cosmetic products.

Regent of Sidoarjo, Ahmad Muhdlor Ali, affectionately known as Gus Muhdlor, expressed his appreciation for the milestone, affirming the local government's support for SMEs engaging in exports. He hopes this achievement will encourage more Sidoarjo-based companies to explore international markets. Yuniati Sastera Kusuma, the Founder of PT Wahana Kosmetika Indonesia, expressed gratitude for the debut export and anticipates this venture to be a stepping stone for future international recognition. The decision to target Malaysia is strategic, considering the shared characteristics between Indonesian and Malaysian consumers. Furthermore, Yuniati emphasized that their products offer comprehensive care from head to toe, utilizing high-quality natural ingredients at affordable prices. Looking ahead, the company envisions expanding exports not only to Malaysia but also to other Southeast Asian regions such as Brunei, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates. Sidoarjo's cosmetic export signifies a promising start to a global presence in the beauty industry, demonstrating the region's commitment to economic growth through international trade partnerships.
