Trenggalek Regency witnessed a remarkable surge in its non-oil and gas exports, totaling IDR 102.106 billion throughout 2023, surpassing the local government's target of IDR 28.3 billion. This achievement signifies a remarkable 362.08% overachievement compared to the preset goal, as stated by Saniran, Head of the Office of Cooperative, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, and Trade of Trenggalek Regency on Tuesday (2/1/2024). Saniran highlighted that the predominant export commodity was essential oils, amounting to IDR 54.72 billion. Trenggalek's essential oils find their way to Europe and various Asian countries, including China and Japan. Production areas span across Watulimo, Dongko, Kampak, and Munjungan sub-districts, particularly in the southern part of Trenggalek, known for its abundant clove trees, which serve as the primary source of raw material for essential oils.
Additionally, fish dory fillets accounted for exports worth IDR 30 billion, followed by turpentine at IDR 9 billion. Trenggalek is gradually exploring the potential of SMEs in the food sector, albeit mostly through arrangements facilitated by Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). To enhance the quality of SME products, Trenggalek's Trade Office consistently conducts training programs. Challenges persist in meeting quantity demands and the capacity to fulfill orders regularly. However, Saniran expressed satisfaction with the product quality, meeting established standards. The efforts of the Trenggalek Regency Trade Office aim to foster continued growth in SMEs, enhancing both their production capacities and quality standards, despite challenges in meeting demands consistently.
