Holiday Season 2024 Expected to Contribute IDR 120 Trillion to National Economy

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, anticipates a significant economic boost during the Christmas 2023 and New Year (Nataru) 2024 holidays, with an estimated contribution of up to IDR 120 trillion to the national economy. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) projects a surge in visitors during the Nataru 2024 period, reaching between 107 to 110 million people, engaging in tourism activities at approximately two to two and a half times the estimated figure. Sandiaga predicts that this will involve 200 to 250 million movements of domestic tourists, with an expenditure per visit ranging from IDR 2.4 to IDR 2.5 million, according to BPS data.  The former Vice Governor of Jakarta expresses hope that the movement of domestic tourists will significantly contribute to economic growth, aligning with the government's target of achieving above 5% growth and creating 4.4 million new jobs in the tourism and creative economy sector in 2024. He emphasizes the importance of utilizing local tourism potential as an alternative amid the rising cases of Covid-19 abroad. Sandiaga underscores that tourism in Indonesia not only offers culinary experiences but also supports the local economy.

Highlighting destinations such as Pantjoran Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) in Jakarta, where tourists can savor diverse international cuisines, he encourages visits to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, praising its exciting new features and green, inclusive, and smart concepts. Addressing the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in some ASEAN countries, Sandiaga urges the public to consider wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distance for health and safety during the Nataru 2024 holiday. He concludes by expressing his expectation for tourists to adhere to protocols, ensuring a smooth, safe, comfortable, enjoyable, and economically stimulating Christmas and New Year holiday season. The positive economic outlook presented by Sandiaga Uno reflects the potential for tourism to play a pivotal role in Indonesia's economic recovery, fostering growth and job creation in the coming year.
