The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/The Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) of Indonesia has projected four tourism and creative economy trends for the year 2024. Revealed during a hybrid Year-End Press Conference at Balairung Soesilo Soedarman, Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Vice Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Wamenparekraf/Wakabaparekraf), outlined the trends as Bleisure, Wellness Experience, Deep and Meaningful, and Set-Jetting. Bleisure, the fusion of business and leisure travel, is expected to thrive as global business travel resumes, allowing individuals to incorporate leisure activities into their work commitments. This trend is seen as an opportunity to attract business travelers to explore diverse destinations like Bali, Labuan Bajo, and Borobudur. Wellness Experience, emphasizing travel for health and spiritual well-being, is gaining popularity post-COVID-19. Indonesia aims to develop health tourism, leveraging projects such as the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Bali. Deep and Meaningful tourism, focusing on high-quality and meaningful experiences, capitalizes on Indonesia's rich nature and culture. Storytelling will play a key role in presenting these experiences to tourists.
Set-Jetting, exploring locations featured in films, is anticipated to be a sought-after trend, drawing visitors to film-related destinations. In the creative economy sector, four trends are identified for 2024: Audio Visual, Mobile Game, Music, and Collaboration. The focus on audio-visual content creation is expected to strengthen, driven by the younger generation's affinity for content creation. The transformation of mobile games from entertainment to a profession is also underway, with the government working on regulations to support the local game industry. Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf emphasizes collaboration to enhance Indonesia's game development ecosystem, aiming for games to become part of esports tourism. Additionally, the music industry is anticipated to flourish in 2024, benefitting from new platforms for musicians to showcase their creativity. Efforts to protect intellectual property (IP) for musicians will be a priority. Lastly, a collaborative approach across sub-sectors, such as film with culinary and fashion with film, is highlighted for mutual economic benefits. Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf is committed to productive, inclusive, and sustainable development strategies, intending to implement these principles in the 2024 Work Program. The agency emphasizes the positive potential of these trends for Indonesia's tourism and creative economy sectors.
