With Various Potentials, Banten Aims to Strengthen the National Furniture and Handicraft Industry

The Indonesian province of Banten unveils various potentials supporting the national industry growth based on bamboo, wood, fossil stone, and pandanus leaves. The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) by the Central Leadership of the Association of Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industries (HIMKI) in Serang on Tuesday disclosed these potentials. Stakeholders in the furniture and handicraft industries at the FGD unveiled Banten's potential supporting national industry growth based on bamboo, wood, fossil stone, and pandanus leaves. The event witnessed various officials managing aspects such as SMEs and marketing. HIMKI's Chairman, Abdul Sobur, envisioned Banten as a significant contributor to national development, especially in furniture and handicraft sectors due to its abundant raw materials across the region. Highlighting China's success, Sobur emphasized prioritizing the domestic market. About 75% of China's furniture is domestically consumed, indicating the importance of fortifying the domestic economy first.

Banten's strategic position historically and currently as a significant hub reflects its easy access to resources, market infrastructure, and services. Its adjacency to Jakarta, the national capital, strengthens investment-related activities efficiently. Fahmi Ramadhana, appointed Chairman of HIMKI Banten, aims to escalate furniture and handicraft exports, striving for global market recognition. HIMKI Banten eyes a thriving local market worth almost IDR 16 trillion annually, focusing on bamboo, wood, fossil stone, and pandanus-based crafts. The plan includes equal opportunities for artisans by providing markets and production facilities for members. Fahmi highlights each regional leader's role in guiding artisans, arranging training, and initiating exchanges with other provinces. HIMKI Banten seeks global recognition for its furniture and handicrafts, emphasizing their quality, not just in local but international markets. The province aims to showcase its abundant natural resources in nurturing bamboo, wood, fossil stone, and pandanus-based crafts. The goal is to expand Banten's crafts industry beyond local markets, fostering worldwide appreciation for Banten's craftsmanship.
