The Ministry of Industry recognizes the wood, rattan, and bamboo processing industry as a downstream sector with high value-added products, actively contributing positively to the national economy through export performance and meeting domestic market demands. In 2022, the wood, rattan, and bamboo processing industry contributed 4% with export performance reaching USD 4.66 billion. Director General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, stated that there are 520 wood processing industry companies (KBLI 16) in Indonesia employing 310,330 people directly. The total investment realisation in the wood processing industry in Indonesia was IDR 3.5 trillion throughout 2022. Meanwhile, the export performance of the furniture industry reached USD 2.47 billion in 2022. Ardika expressed appreciation for the support from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), which facilitated data exchange between the Sustainable Forest Management Information System (SIPHL) at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and SIINas at the Ministry without burdening upstream and downstream industry players.
The synergy between ministries is reflected in the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) on the exchange and utilization of wood raw material data and processed wood product information or interconnection of forestry industry product information systems. The interconnection between SIPHL KLHK and SIINas Kemenperin is expected to benefit the government in policy-making and also industry players in both upstream and downstream wood sectors. It provides transparency in the flow of wood raw material data to downstream sectors and vice versa for policy-making. Additionally, industry players can benefit from a dashboard indicating the availability of wood raw materials and downstream industry off-takerss. The main feature of this information system interconnection is the two-way exchange of data between SIPHL and SIINas through an online system. The real-time availability of data through dashboards at KLHK and Kemenperin supports the government in monitoring the production and usage of wood and wood products in the domestic industry. The launch of the Forestry Industry Product Information System (SI PIK) is a crucial part of the Indonesian government's commitment to continue synergizing in supporting the sustainability of digital wood processing information systems and efforts to boost Indonesia's wood industry production from upstream to downstream.
