Indonesia and Macau Explore Economic and Tourism Potentials

In a proactive move to sustain the post-pandemic economic recovery, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong has engaged with Macau in a series of meetings, emphasizing the economic, trade, and tourism potentials between the two regions on December 13, 2023. During the meeting with Macau Airport Authority, KJRI Hong Kong received positive insights into Macau's economic progress, particularly in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Despite the improvement in tourist visits, Macau Airport Authority remains committed to optimizing the development potential of Macau Airport. This includes adding flight slots, developing facilities, and fostering international cooperation, according to KJRI Hong Kong. In a groundbreaking move, KJRI Hong Kong suggested collaboration between Macau Airport and prominent Indonesian tourist destinations such as New Bali, Lake Toba, and other super-priority destinations.

KJRI Hong Kong commended the launch of direct flights between Macau and Jakarta. Chen Hong, the CEO of Air Macau, identified Indonesia as a potential market and expressed the hope to increase the frequency of direct flights. KJRI Hong Kong responded positively, emphasizing the significance of connectivity in enhancing relations between Indonesia and Macau. In addition to economic focus, KJRI Hong Kong visited Macau Mosque and Cemetery, the sole mosque in the region. Imam Ding Shao Jie revealed that the mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a center for Indonesian migrant workers to build a community. "This reflects the importance of maintaining the values of diversity and harmony among citizens abroad," said Imam Ding Shao Jie. Throughout the entire visit, KJRI Hong Kong reaffirmed its commitment to fully support Indonesia's national economic recovery and strengthen cross-border cooperation with Macau. Through these collaborative efforts, it is anticipated that the bilateral relationship between the two regions will further enrich and advance their economies and tourism sectors.
