During the upcoming 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year holidays, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, anticipates approximately 107 million domestic tourist movements. She emphasized the significance of these peak periods for Indonesia, underscoring the need for comprehensive collaboration among stakeholders to attain this figure. Transportation Ministry data forecasts that these forthcoming holidays will witness potential tourist movements of 107.63 million, equating to 39.83% of the nation's total population.
Survey findings highlighted that primary reasons for travel during these occasions include holidaying at tourist destinations (45.29%), homecoming visits (30.15%), and celebrating Christmas and New Year in hometowns (18.98%). Private vehicles, particularly cars, dominate the transportation choice, accounting for 35.57% (39.97 million people), followed by motorbikes at 17.92% (20.14 million people). Public transportation preferences rank trains highest, accommodating 13.16% (14.79 million people), succeeded by planes at 11.91% (13.38 million people), buses at 10.94% (12.29 million people), ferries at 6.04% (6.78 million people), and ships at 3.44% (3.86 million people).
