In October 2023, national car sales rose by 0.44%, reaching 80,271 units compared to September 2023, which saw 79,919 units sold. According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) on Monday, November 13, the sales of four-wheeled vehicles last month increased by only 352 units. However, national car sales in October 2023 were 13.86% lower than the sales in the same period in 2022, which reached 93,194 units. Cumulatively, the total national car sales from January to October 2023 reached 836,049 units, showing a 1.80% decrease compared to the cumulative sales from January to October 2022, which amounted to 851,399 units. The car sales in October became the lowest of the year, with the previous lowest recorded in May at 58,981 units, followed by September with 79,919 units.
The decline in car sales in October is attributed to many people shifting to environmentally friendly cars at affordable prices, known as Low-Cost Green Cars (LCGC). This is evident in the impressive sales data for LCGCs in October 2023. LCGC sales in October reached 20,695 units, higher than the sales in September, which amounted to 17,148 units. The LCGC sales in October 2023 surged by 14.57% compared to the same period in 2022, which recorded 18,062 units. Cumulatively, LCGC sales from January to October 2023 reached 176,901 units, a remarkable 20.56% increase compared to the same period in 2022 with 146,726 units. The Astra Group continues to lead four-wheeled vehicle sales in the country in October 2023, with Toyota and Lexus recording sales of 27,656 units. Daihatsu follows with 14,099 units sold, Honda with 11,938 units, and Mitsubishi in fourth place with 8,094 units. Suzuki takes the fifth position with 5,990 units, followed by Hyundai with 3,032 units, Isuzu with 2,531 units, and Wuling with 2,172 units. "In cumulative terms, wholesale national car sales from January to October 2023 reached 836,049 units. Meanwhile, Astra Group car sales from January to October 2023 reached 465,869 units, with Astra's wholesale car market share at 56%. We hope national car sales will continue to be positive until the end of the year," stated Head of Corporate Communications at Astra, Boy Kelana Soebroto.
