Six distinctive Surabaya batik motifs have joined the Indonesia International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MF) event. This international-scale fashion show took place over five days, from October 25 to 29, 2023, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). Rini Indriyani, Chairwoman of the Surabaya Regional National Craft Council (Dekranasda), stated that they collaborated with designer Gita Orlin at the IN2MF event in JCC. During the event, they showcased 11 designs, including six Surabaya batik motifs. This is one of the efforts to promote Surabaya batik on the international stage. Because the IN2MF event is no longer just on a national scale but international. This is their first time on a national and international scale event, and hopefully, this will be a good start. She also revealed that about 174 designers from both local and international backgrounds were participating in the IN2MF event. These designers featured products from Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) from their respective regions.
The six distinctive Surabaya batik motifs included Remo Suroboyoan, Sparkling, Batik Abhi Boyo, Gembili Wonokromo, Kembang Bungur, and Kintir-kintiran. She hopes that through this event, Surabaya batik, especially MSME products, can gain more recognition. Meanwhile, Gita Orlin, a designer from Surabaya, explained that the IN2MF runway or fashion show would take place on October 28, 2023, at around 7:00 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). In this event, she adopted the theme "Celebrating Fashion with Culture." In this event, she collaborated with the Surabaya City Government, specifically with Dekranasda Surabaya, to showcase the distinctive Surabaya batik. Through this event, Gita Orlin hopes that Surabaya's distinctive batik will gain more recognition, both nationally and internationally. Moreover, this event is also attended by designers from foreign countries such as India, Malaysia, and Dubai. Almost every country participates in this IN2MF event. The main goal of this event is to make all Indonesian designers and Indonesian MSMEs more recognized internationally. This event is held every year, but this year it's more focused on the international aspect.
