The logistics business in Indonesia constitutes one of the rapidly growing industries. With its vast geographical expanse and interconnected infrastructure, the logistics industry is poised to boost Indonesia's economic growth. This was discussed during the "Advancing Indonesia's Archipelagic Logistics Industry" session at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023, moderated by Investor Daily's Editor-in-Chief, Djaka Susila. Trian Yuserma, the Secretary General of ASPERINDO, stated that domestic logistic services have now reached all regions of Indonesia. He ensured that Indonesia's connectivity has been integrated and interconnected globally, positioning Indonesia as a fast-growing company.
During the same event, Putut Sri Muljanto, the Managing Director of Pelindo, emphasised that domestic connectivity became apparent as global economic growth declined amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2019, global economic activities seemed to halt, but the logistics industry continued to thrive domestically. This shows that the connectivity is now excellent, unlike the past when there were many traffic jams. For example, it is now clear which ships will depart for routes like Jakarta - Pontianak or Surabaya - Banjarmasin. Digitalization and technology play pivotal roles in the logistics industry. The Sea Toll Program initiated by the Ministry of Transportation will certainly aid in intermodal integration. If connectivity occurs, it automatically reduces costs, so this is something that needs to be developed. As a key player in this industry, Kenny Kwanto, Chief Marketing Officer of Lion Parcel, explained that the Indonesian market is highly diverse. It utilises not only air transport but also land and sea transport. In a market like this, some require speed, while others are willing to invest more for logistics services.
