Integrated Marine and Fisheries Center in Biak Numfor Exports 2.4 Tons of Fresh Tuna to Japan

The Integrated Marine and Fisheries Center (Sentra Kelautan dan Perikanan Terpadu, SKPT) in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua, successfully exported 2.4 tons of fresh tuna to Narita, Japan, via Frans Kaisiepo Biak Airport on Wednesday. The Head of the Biak Numfor Fisheries Service, stated that by October 18, 2023, a total of 53 shipments, amounting to 166.4 tons, of fresh Yellowfin tuna had been exported to Narita, Japan from SKPT Biak. According to him, the export of fresh tuna from SKPT Biak continues to be predominantly directed to Japan. He also mentioned that there are entrepreneurs who directly receive fresh tuna from Biak. He expressed gratitude for the smooth transport of fresh tuna exports from Frans Kaisiepo Biak Airport using aeroplanes, up to October 18, 2023. He affirmed that fresh tuna from SKPT Biak is of high quality and has become a special delicacy for the Japanese people.

He emphasised that SKPT Biak Numfor, in collaboration with fisheries business partners, is committed to increasing the volume of fresh tuna exports both in terms of quantity and quality. The main objective is to export fresh tuna from SKPT Biak to Japan. Based on data from the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries, the waters of Teluk Cenderawasih in Biak are part of fishing zone 717. The potential for Yellowfin tuna in Biak's waters reaches around 800 tons per year, contributing approximately IDR 17 trillion to the national foreign exchange earnings.
