The realization of investments in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has reached IDR 4.79 trillion by September 2023. During this process, the Mandalika SEZ has created job opportunities for 8,154 individuals, including those involved in the 2023 World Superbikes (WSBK) event. Furthermore, the presence of the 2023 MotoGP until October 13, 2023, has provided employment to approximately 2,400 people. The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, explained that the Mandalika SEZ is recognized as a tourism destination with SEZ status based on Government Regulation No. 52 of 2014 concerning the Mandalika Special Economic Zone. This effort reflects strong government support for the growth of the Mandalika SEZ, expected to become the core of Indonesian tourism with a focus on sport tourism. As a sport tourism destination, the Mandalika SEZ has taken various initiatives, such as modernising sports infrastructure, hosting various international sports events, forming international partnerships, supporting the development of local sports, and launching promotional and marketing efforts through the continuous organisation of sports events.
Indonesia's exposure on the international stage has gained high recognition and credibility. With Indonesia's stable economic growth above 5% for seven consecutive quarters, Indonesia has become an attractive investment destination, and many investments are expected to flow into the country. Several national and international sporting events have been successfully held in the Mandalika SEZ, including the MotoGP, World Superbike, Shell Eco Marathon, L’Etape cycling race, and TNI Marathon. The presence of such international events has had a positive multiplier effect on the local population and has contributed to the economic growth of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). In the current organisation of the MotoGP, PT MGPA Nusantara Jaya, operating in the Mandalika SEZ, benefits from facilities such as exemption from import duties and taxes for the goods required for the 2023 MotoGP. In addition, customs procedures have been expedited to support the smooth conduct of the event.
