Vita Ervina, a member of Commission IV from the PDI Perjuangan Faction, is urging fish farmers in the Magelang region of Central Java to enhance the quality of their products, particularly fish. By improving the quality of their products, the opportunity for exports becomes more promising. The presence of the Balai Karantina Ikan dan Penjamin Mutu (Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Safety of Fishery Products Station) from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in Yogyakarta is ready to assist fish farmers in raising their product quality.
Vita emphasized the importance of collaboration among fish farmers in Magelang City and the Magelang Regency to boost the quality of their fisheries. She stated that the technical guidance provided is a means to prepare for better quality, both in the breeding and processing of fishery products. Enhancing the quality of export-ready fishery products is expected to raise the level of fish consumption among the public, which is currently low for various reasons. The aim is to improve the export process, with a focus on maintaining the quality and biosecurity of fishery products. The head of the Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Safety of Fishery Products Station in Yogyakarta, Edi Santoso, pointed out that Indonesia exports fish to 171 countries, and Magelang has substantial potential. He highlighted the need to separate small and large fish for quality maintenance and emphasized the importance of using ice, not formalin, to maintain quality. Lele (catfish), nila (tilapia), and patin (silver catfish) fish are in high demand abroad, especially during the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia, presenting significant opportunities for the industry. The focus is on maintaining the quality and health of the products to avoid rejections in foreign markets. The process doesn't involve additional costs except for disease and quality testing fees.
