The strengthening of the US dollar is good news for players in the Indonesian furniture and handicraft export industries. As the US dollar strengthens, the prices of furniture and handicraft products rise in export markets. However, it's crucial to monitor the stability of the US dollar against other currencies, according to Abdul Sobur, Chairman of the Presidium of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI).

On the other hand, the strengthening of the US dollar may tempt raw material exporters due to increased demand. This development can affect the availability of raw materials for downstream industries, such as furniture and handicrafts. To prevent this, HIMKI is urging the government to control the export of raw materials to ensure a stable supply for furniture and handicraft industry players.

Scarcity of raw materials can lead to price increases, which can be burdensome for industries, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For domestic-focused furniture and handicraft producers, the impact of the US dollar's strengthening may not be significant, but any shortages in raw materials could still lead to price hikes. Most HIMKI members are furniture and handicraft exporters, but they also consider the domestic market's well-being.
