The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is actively encouraging the food and beverage industry to expand and market its products globally, recognizing its potential to be a key player in the global supply chain. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized the importance of connecting Indonesian industrial players to global supply networks and enhancing the competitiveness of the national industry in producing quality and competitive products in international markets. The food industry plays a crucial role in Indonesia's economy, contributing 39.17% to the non-oil and gas processing industry's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2023. In 2022, food and beverage exports reached USD 48.6 billion.
To boost national export value and strengthen Indonesia's position as a global player in this industry, various forms of support are being provided to increase the industry's exposure to global markets. This includes facilitating participation in international exhibitions. The Ministry of Industry facilitated the participation of food industry players in the Food Ingredients Asia (FIA) 2023 international exhibition held in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 20 to 22, 2023.
The participation of Indonesia in FIA 2023 aims to catalyze the growth and development of the food and beverage raw materials industry in the Asian regional market. Seven Indonesian companies from various regions participated in the event, displaying products such as agar flour, seaweed flour, konjac, refined carrageenan, carrageenan blended products, extracts, essential oils, aroma chemicals, and non-dairy creamer. The presence of Indonesia at FIA 2023 serves as a platform to introduce the potential of Indonesia's food and beverage industry, particularly its ingredients, to the Asian market, while also providing access to the European market, as many potential European buyers were present at the exhibition.
