The Italian automotive industry is experiencing a year of growth and consolidation in 2023, defying the challenges faced by the broader industrial sector. Recent statistics from Istat reveal an impressive 11% increase in automotive production in July 2023 compared to the previous year. Moreover, over the first seven months of the year, the sector has sustained an 8.8% growth rate. This growth is particularly evident in the manufacturing of motor vehicles (Ateco code 29.1), which saw an 18.4% increase in July and a robust 19.7% rise over the first seven months of 2023.
Gianmarco Giorda, the General Manager of ANFIA (National Automotive Industry Association), confirms the sector's favorable momentum. ANFIA's preliminary data indicates that car production surpassed 347,000 units in the first seven months of 2023, marking a significant growth of 22.1%. However, it's essential to contextualize these achievements within the broader Italian industrial landscape, where total industrial production decreased by 2.1% in July 2023 and 2.6% over the first seven months of the year. Despite this, the Italian automotive industry's resilience and growth underscore its strategic significance for the nation's economy.
