Tourism Villages Can Serve as an Economic Powerhouse for Indonesia by Drawing in Tourists

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, in partnership with the World Bank, has recommenced the "Sadar Wisata 5.0" campaign in six tourist villages within the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru region. This initiative, launched in 2022, aims to stimulate economic growth and employment opportunities through collaboration among these tourism-oriented villages. Florida Pardosi, Director of Human Resources in Tourism at the Ministry, stressed the importance of community involvement and collaboration for the development of these tourist destinations, emphasizing that tourism experiences are shaped not only by attractions but also by interactions and services provided by locals. The campaign focuses on introducing key tourism elements like Sapta Pesona, CHSE standards, excellent service, and conflict management to residents and tourism stakeholders. It aims to empower tourist villages, reducing unemployment, and curbing urbanization, making these villages crucial drivers of regional and national economies.

Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, sees the "Sadar Wisata 5.0" program as a flagship initiative to enhance human resources in the tourism sector. He highlighted the importance of meeting tourists' specific needs to improve the overall quality of the tourism experience. Indonesia aims to cultivate tourism leaders in its villages, fostering the growth of sustainable and competitive tourism and creative economies while preserving local wisdom. These efforts align with Indonesia's goals of creating 4.4 million jobs by 2024, welcoming 8.5 million foreign tourists, and hosting 1.4 billion domestic tourists.
