Protect MSMEs From Import Invansion, Government Implements Digital Platform Rules

The government ensures the creation of an equal playing field for domestic products in the digital platform ecosystem. This is very important, considering the potential of Indonesia's digital economy is estimated to reach IDR 5,400 trillion by 2030. Data from idEA shows that 22 million MSMEs in Indonesia have experienced the benefits of digital onboarding. This number is 34% of all MSMEs in Indonesia towards the target of 30 million MSMEs connected to digital platforms by 2024. The government continues to encourage policies so that all MSME products are protected and included in the digital platform. Digital economy policies are also designed to protect local e-commerce and consumers. This prompted the government to revise Permendag Number 50 of 2020.
Furthermore, marketplace platform providers are prohibited from selling their own products, unless the product is the result of aggregation from MSMEs as evidenced by a Business Identification Number (NIB) and requires domestic and foreign marketplaces to prioritize and not discriminate against Indonesian products. In addition, platform providers provide definitions and regulations on socio-commerce, require marketplaces to supervise, mentor, a healthy business competition climate and prevent the practice of price manipulation or predatory pricing, both crossborder products and imported products that have entered Indonesia.
