Indonesia and Maldives Convene To Discuss Air Services Agreement In Order To Support Tourism

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, representing Indonesia, engaged in a bilateral meeting with Maldives held on the 9th and 10th of August in Bali. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss technical arrangements for air transport and initial the draft of the Air Services Agreement (ASA). The technical arrangements encompass scheduled flights, non-scheduled flights, and cargo. Following the outcomes of the recent meeting, both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and have agreed to execute the signing of the ASA by Ministerial representatives during the celebration of the 50th year of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Maldives in 2024. Through this ASA, Indonesian airlines can conduct flights to/from Male' and Gan. Meanwhile, Maldivian airlines can operate flights to/from Denpasar, Kertajati, and Yogyakarta.
 
The signing of the MoU by the Director of Air Transport, together with the Chief Executive of the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, was witnessed by the State Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of Maldives and the Director of South and Central Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia. With the signing of this MoU on the arrangements between Indonesia and Maldives, flights between the two nations can soon commence, thus hopefully bolstering Indonesia's tourism sector and contributing to the economic growth of both countries.
