President of Indonesia, Jokowi, at the Opening of the XVII 2023 National Conference of the Association of Indonesian Real Estate Companies (MUNAS REI) 9 in Jakarta (9/8/2023), praised the contribution of the property sector to the Indonesian Economy for contributing IDR 2.300 trillion to IDR 2.800 trillion per year. In addition, The Indonesian Head of State also praised the rapid development of Real Estate Indonesia (REI). Jokowi detailed that REI members in 1972 were only 33 companies, while now it has skyrocketed to 6.400 companies. Many countries in the world depend on their economies for real estate business. The reason is, the GDP contribution of this sectors is very high. In fact, the property sector has a multiplier effect on 185 other subsectors. The Indonesian Head of State emphasized that no industry is as efficient as its securities properties.
The Head of State asked REI to continue to increase collaboration with the government and help small people to have healthy and decent housing with the One Million House Program. In addition, the President reminded REI of the importance of paying attention to social and environmental impacts in building a residential area. The Head of State does not want the construction of new housing areas to cause problems for other areas. The Head of State also hope that the XVII REI National Conference can formulate strategic steps in order to respond to the opportunities and challenges faced by the property industry in the country. The Head of State also wants Indonesia to have a number of cities that are different from one another.
