Tourism Sector Acts As Catalyst For Driving Lampung’s Economic Growth

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released the Economic Growth of Lampung Province for the Second Quarter of 2023. In a year-on-year comparison, Lampung's economic growth stands out as the highest among provinces in Sumatra. Moreover, in a quarter-on-quarter comparison, Lampung experienced its peak growth in the second quarter of 2023, making it the highest economic growth among all provinces in Indonesia. The snapshot of Lampung's economic growth in the second quarter of 2023, according to the Governor, can serve as a foundation for economic growth in the third quarter and form the basis for the region's economic policy decisions in 2023. To ensure that the economic condition does not contract, it is important to assess and evaluate the economic achievements presented by the speakers, understand the future outlook, and determine the appropriate instruments to drive and maintain Lampung's economic growth.

Tourism sector is one of the key drivers for boosting economic growth. As widely recognized, advancements in the tourism sector have a ripple effect on other sectors such as transportation, hotels and accommodations, restaurants, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Lampung possesses promising tourism destinations that can be developed, with natural beauty spanning from lowlands to medium and highlands, forming flat terrains to hills and mountains. The tourism potential of Lampung encompasses mountains, sea, and artificial attractions, supported by 172 islands and a coastline stretching 1,319.021 kilometres. Lampung Province's economy in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of the same year grew by 8.15% (quarter-on-quarter). The fields of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries experienced growth at 18.3% and The Component of Government Consumption Expenditure (PK-P) showed growth at 32.11%. Lampung Province's economy in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the second quarter of 2022 (year-on-year) grew by 4.00%. The Transport and Warehousing sector experienced growth at 19.32%, and The Component of Export of Goods and Services showed growth at 9.83%.
