Indonesia's Economy Achieves 5.17% Growth in Q2-2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded a robust economic growth of 5.17%(year on year/yoy) for Indonesia in the second quarter of 2023, surpassing analysts' market expectations. This growth is higher than market expectations even with a high growth base in the same period last year. This demonstrates the resilience of national economic activity amidst global slowdown. This achievement surpasses the majority of countries and regions, including Vietnam, the European Union, the United States, and South Korea, which grew by 4.1%, 0.6%, 2.6%, and 0.9% (yoy) respectively during the same period.  The growth of national investment continues to show improvement alongside ongoing structural reforms aimed at creating an increasingly attractive investment climate. Positive investment growth is also driven by growth in building capital, equipment, and machinery, signifying strong production activity.

The sustained resilience of the national economic expansion trend until the second quarter of 2023 is a crucial asset for future economic growth. The quality of economic growth is evident through a decrease in the unemployment rate to 5.45% in February 2023 and a poverty rate of 9.36% in March 2023. Nevertheless, the government will continue to monitor and anticipate the risks posed by the current global economic slowdown and its impact on Indonesia's international trade performance. The government will continue to monitor and anticipate the risks posed by the current global economic slowdown, especially its impact on national exports and imports. The impetus for the continued downstreaming phase will be carried out to boost national export performance. The government will also fully utilize various international economic cooperation forums to expand the export market for national products. With this achievement in growth rate and ongoing structural improvements, the government is optimistic that the national economic growth rate for the year 2023 is projected to be around 5.1%.
