Meeting European Businessmen, The Trade Minister and IEU-CEPA Negotiations Will Be Completed Soon

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan met delegations of the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and EuroCham in Jakarta, Monday (31/7). The delegation was led by EU-ASEAN Business Council Chairman Jens Ruebbert and EuroCham Indonesia Chairman Francois De Maricourt, and attended by business representatives from the European Union. On the occasion, The Minister had a dialogue with EU business people regarding trade policies, such as exports and imports, e-commerce, and international trade. The Minister revealed that foreign trade policy continues to be improved to create a conducive business climate. To support this, the Ministry of Trade is developing an electronic-based public service system that is transparent, fast, and makes it easier for business people. Meanwhile, regarding e-commerce, The Minister revealed the plan to revise the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 50 of 2020 concerning Provisions for Business Licensing, Advertising, Coaching, and Supervision of Business Actors in Trading Through Electronic Systems to support MSMEs, as well as ensure healthy competition and market systems.

The European Union is the 3rd largest export destination and the 4th largest source of imports for Indonesia. In 2022, the total trade between Indonesia and the European Union was recorded at USD 33.2 billion. Indonesia's main export commodities to the European Union in 2022 are palm oil and its fractions, industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids, coal, copper, and footwear with rubber outsoles. Meanwhile, Indonesia's main imports from the European Union in 2022 are iron and steel pipes, medicines, vaccines, pulp making machines, and recycled paper or cardboard.
