The Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, hopes that the investment by PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI) can drive Indonesia's electric vehicle exports to the world. The Ministry of Trade supports the efforts of PT HMMI, which not only meets domestic automotive needs but also exports its products produced in Indonesia to partner countries. Minister Zulkifli Hasan encourages PT HMMI to continue its performance, prioritize partnerships with local entrepreneurs (especially MSMEs), optimize the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), and receive support from both local and central governments to create a healthy and competitive industry in the global market.
Youngtack Lee, President of Hyundai Motor Asean Headquarter, stated that over 50% of Hyundai's production in Indonesia has been exported to foreign countries. He requested support for Hyundai Motor Company to lead the automotive industry in ASEAN. The laying of the foundation stone for the electric vehicle battery packaging factory has been completed in May 2023, and the construction of the Hyundai-LG Energy Solution electric vehicle battery joint venture is underway to accelerate the creation of an electric vehicle ecosystem and establish Indonesia as a center for electric vehicle production in ASEAN. Hyundai has already launched mass-produced SUVs, such as the Creta and Stargazer MPV, including the Ioniq 5, which is the first localized electric car in Indonesia and was chosen as the official vehicle for the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022.
