The Muslim fashion industry has been experiencing rapid growth both in Indonesia and globally, with projected Muslim spending worldwide reaching USD 375 billion in 2025, compared to USD 295 billion in 2021. Bank Indonesia (BI), through its representative in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Heru Saptaji, is consistently developing the modest fashion sector as a key strategy to strengthen the national halal ecosystem. The aim is to accelerate Indonesia's position as a global hub for the halal industry, with NTB at its epicenter. BI focuses on developing the value chain in the fashion industry, increasing awareness and inclusion of Indonesian Muslim fashion products among the public, and fostering synergistic collaborations with various stakeholders, including local governments, Dekranasda, the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), and others. The goal is to position NTB and Indonesia as one of the largest centers for modest fashion worldwide and a reference point in the global modest fashion industry.
BI's efforts to support the Muslim fashion industry in NTB include promoting the traditional woven fabric (wastra tenun) of NTB, which has distinctive characteristics and allure. This initiative serves as both a cultural and economic diplomacy tool on the global stage, showcasing NTB not only as a tourist destination or host of international sporting events but also as a place renowned for its exquisite traditional fabrics. The recent Lombok International Modest Fashion Festival (LIMOFF) is part of BI's support, leading up to the IN2MOTIONFEST 2023 and the Indonesian Smart Economy Forum (ISEF) 2023, which will be organized by Bank Indonesia in October. Indonesia ranks third in the modest fashion sector globally, following the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. According to the SGIE Report 2022, the top five suppliers of modest fashion products are China, India, Turkey, Italy, and Vietnam, accounting for nearly 76% of the global supply. NTB's Governor, Zulkieflimansyah, believes that NTB has the potential to become a center for Indonesian and global Muslim fashion due to its unique opportunities for development. With NTB already known for its fashion industry, the province is well-positioned to expand its fashion industry presence in the national and international markets, aiming to establish itself as a national center for modest fashion.
