Indonesia Has the Potential to Increase Fishery Product Exports to Egypt

The Indonesian Trade Attaché in Cairo, M Syahran Bakti, highlights Egypt as a significant market for Indonesian seafood and marine products. Bakti encourages broader business-to-business (B2B) cooperation between Indonesian and Egyptian enterprises to seize the opportunities available in Egypt's population of 110 million people. He emphasizes the importance of Indonesian participation in regular food and industrial trade exhibitions held in Egypt.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, is optimistic about potential opportunities despite the challenging global economic conditions and inflation. The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo is working to eliminate trade barriers, including the activation of counter-trade schemes between businesses of both countries. The embassy also assists Egyptian importers in finding markets for their exported products, fostering a favorable negotiating position. During a visit to Fayomeifor Import & Export warehouse in Fashn, Bani Suef, Egypt, the potential for trade cooperation was discussed.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported a significant increase in Indonesian seafood and cocoa fat exports to Egypt. The value of Indonesian fishery product exports reached USD 1.63 million in January-February 2023, a 600% increase compared to the same period last year. Exports of cocoa fat increased by 3,084%, reaching USD 1.46 million, while cocoa powder exports reached USD 964,000. Additionally, palm oil and its derivatives reached USD 80 million in exports. The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo also visited Al Ryad (A2R), a biscuit and snack factory that uses Indonesian cocoa powder, cocoa butter substitute (CBS), and white butter as supporting ingredients.
