Airlangga Confident that IKN Can Lift Economic Growth Above 5.3%

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto believes Indonesia's economy can grow by more than 5.3% this year. One of the supports is the existence of massive infrastructure development, such as in the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago. According to him, infrastructure development in IKN can be a breath of fresh air in economic growth. The reason is that infrastructure determines the movement of the economy to grow. "And of course one of the big programs is IKN. This IKN started this year and is expected to continue to run as a long-term program," he said in the Economic Outlook 2023, Tuesday (14/2). "We know that one of the levers of economic growth is infrastructure. And infrastructure in the form of large projects is expected to be able to attract the national economy, one of which is IKN," continued the Coordinating Minister for Airlangga. Airlangga noted, with the economy growing 5.3% in 2022, this was the highest growth achievement in 10 years. The key is to boost public spending widely. "The key is actually we can boost higher growth, even though yesterday government spending was relatively negative, if we can push spending, this figure could be higher than 5.3% ," he said.

Apart from pushing through infrastructure development, Airlangga revealed a number of steps the government had also taken. Including the issuance of the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Services Sector (UU P2SK). He alluded to one of them regarding the mechanism of carbon trading. The P2SK Law clearly regulates carbon trading through exchanges. "In P2SK carbon trading, we put it on the stock exchange so that we are in preparation for it. The OJK will also add a special commissioner for handling carbon trading, so that our readiness will be stronger," he said. It doesn't stop there, the government also continues to run the Pre-Employment Card Program as one of its mainstays. Where, there have been 16.4 million people who have received assistance from here as an effort to develop human resources (HR). "Now this pre-employment card is semi-social assistance which is productive in nature, not purely given money, people who take (assistance), have to take education, the amount is Rp. 1 million online education and get social assistance Rp. 600 thousand times 4. And this has been accessed by 45 million people from 514 city districts and 16.4 million people have participated," he explained.
