ROME, FEB 13 - Italian GDO will rise 0.8% this year and 1% next, the European Commission said in its winter forecasts Monday.
The autumn forecasts had seen 0.3% growth this year and 1.1% next. Also in the new forecasts, inflation is seen at 6.1% in 2023 and 2.6% in 2024, the EC said.
"In Italy, growth contracted marginally in the last quarter of 2022, but is expected to recover gradually this year and avoid a technical recession in 2023," said European Economic Affairs Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, a former Italian premier.
"Real GDP is expected to grow by 0.8 % thanks to private demand but also to the public investment projects included in the country's Recovery and Resilience Plan.
"The GDP outlook for 2024 remains virtually unchanged compared to the autumn with growth expected at 1 per cent".
