Inaugurating Fertilizer Factory in Aceh, Jokowi Says Investment Value Reaches Rp. 1.7 Trillion
President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated the PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) fertilizer factory in Aceh Province, Friday (10/2/2023). Jokowi said the investment value of the fertilizer factory reached IDR 1.7 trillion.
"This is what we are doing and Rp 1.7 trillion has been invested for PIM, both for the NPK industry and for the main port facilities," Jokowi said during the inauguration, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Friday (10/2 /2023).
He said that farmers often complain about the availability of fertilizers and the high price of fertilizers. This is due to the limited availability of domestic fertilizers.
"The need for fertilizer in Indonesia is 13.5 million tons. 3.5 million tons are met. And that's what I've been feeling lately, every time I go to the village, every time I go into the fields, I meet farmers who always say 'Sir, no fertilizer. Yes, sir, fertilizer prices are high,'" he explained.
Jokowi also hopes that the existence of PT PMI's fertilizer factory can produce 1.14 million fertilizers so that it can solve the problems that farmers have complained about. If farmers don't use it, he said fertilizer can be exported and developed.
"What is clear, I want the capacity here to be 570 thousand tons times two, meaning that 1.14 million tons will really be able to come out later. So that we can resolve complaints from farmers. If not, for example not Run also exports have a great opportunity for us to develop," he said.
He also asked the Ministry of BUMN, PT Pupuk Indonesia and PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda to find solutions and solutions for the gas problem. This is because PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda had stopped production due to supply problems gas.
"Because the key is there. So that it comes out right, then the output is installed according to what we want," said Jokowi.
Besides that, he hopes that the Arun Lhoksumawe Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will become a green industrial area. Moreover, there are already investors who will come in so that it is hoped that it will have an effect on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Aceh Province.
"Estimated by Deputy Minister (BUMN), Mr. Pahala earlier, it can affect 7 percent of GRDP in Aceh. This is very big. Therefore, no matter how big it is, don't stop," Jokowi said.

2 Fertilizer Factories in Aceh Stopped Production
Jokowi also alluded to two fertilizer factories in Aceh Province which stopped production namely, PT Asean Aceh Fertilizer (AAF) and PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM). Jokowi said the two fertilizer factories had stopped since 2005 due to problems with gas, which is the raw material for fertilizer production.
"This has been going on since 2005, sir. The problem is gas. If we don't have enough gas from within the country, can't we import it so the factory can run? I don't know, for decades we have just kept quiet on assets this big," he said.
Jokowi finally ordered BUMN Minister Erick Thohir to return to running the two fertilizer factories in Aceh. However, currently the government has only succeeded in operating the PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda factory.
"But this has just been implemented, the PIM, AAF, there are still many problems that must be seen and calculated. Go first, one is fine. PIM 1, PIM 2 are running, the need for gas is sought. This is a basic need that we want, why should we just let it go? ," he said.
