Indonesia managed to record the highest annual economic growth since 2013. This figure is also the highest in the era of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
As is well known, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded that Indonesia's economy has recorded a growth of 5.31% throughout 2022. This growth was driven by improved mobility in line with the reduction in the number of Covid-19 infections and the elimination of PPKM.
Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said that the source of Indonesia's economic growth this time is exports. Exports recorded growth of 14.93%, while consumption grew below 5%, namely 4.48%.
"Especially for exports, net exports are counted in GDP. Exports show that in 2022 we will have a windfall profit which contributes 3.60%," Margo said at a BPS press conference, Monday (6/2/2023).
However, continued Margo, the distribution of exports is not as big as consumption. If the distribution of consumption to GDP is calculated, it reaches 51.65% and exports amount to 24.72%.
For the record, export growth throughout 2022 will be driven by rising commodity prices, one of which is coal. In fact, Indonesia's exports throughout 2022 posted a surplus of up to US$ 54.46 billion or Rp. 816.30 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,898).
On the other hand, imports recorded low growth of 6.25% and their distribution to the economy decreased by 20.90%.
