The government of West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra is targeting fish production of around 114,813 tons in 2023 with various efforts to improve fishermen's infrastructure and with the help of seeds and feed.
"Hopefully the target that has been set can be achieved later by the end of the year," said Head of the West Pasaman Fisheries Service Zulfi Agus at Simpang Empat, Sunday.
He said the aquaculture production target is 6,054 tons and the capture fisheries production target is 108,759 tons. The total fish production target is 114,813 tons
According to him, the steps to achieving the 2023 production target for capture fisheries include providing assistance with fishing facilities and infrastructure such as boats, ship engines and fishing gear.
For aquaculture, provide assistance with cultivation facilities in the form of seeds and feed as well as fish feed making machines.
"Besides that, it also improves the quality of existing fishermen's human resources through outreach and technical guidance," he said
For 2022, the realization of aquaculture production is 5,825 tons and the realization of capture fishery production is 98,407 tons.
He explained last year's actual production was below the target. For capture fisheries production due to extreme weather and decreased fish populations.
For aquaculture production it did not reach the target due to the increase in feed prices causing sluggish fish farming and also due to the earthquake the turbid river water flow from Mount Talamau caused many cages to fail to harvest.
For capture fisheries production, the majority of tuna, mackerel, red snapper, mackerel, selar, anchovies, grouper, layur, pomfret, kwe, skipjack, white shrimp, crabs and crabs are produced. "In terms of quality, it is no less competitive with other fish-producing regions in Indonesia," he added.Besides being marketed in West Sumatra, fish produced by fishermen in West Sumatra are also in other provinces and some even go abroad, such as grouper.
