East Java Capture Fisheries Production and Exports Are The Highest in Indonesia

There is no doubt about the food independence of East Java Province. One of them is the production of capture fisheries which is ranked first nationally. Apart from that, fisheries exports were also recorded as the highest in 2022. Increasing self-sufficiency in food is one of the priority programs for East Java's development in 2023 which is also accompanied by increased management of energy resources. For information, based on data from the Fish Quarantine Center for Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products (BKIPMHP), exports of East Java fishery commodities to foreign countries in 2022 were the highest nationally, reaching 381,477 tons with an export value of USD 2,602,492. 056. After East Java, is DKI Jakarta with a total export of 303,037 tons, then South Sulawesi with 190,753 tons, then Central Java with 59,216 tons, and North Sumatra with a total export of 49,889 tons. With the leading export commodities, namely shrimp reaching a total of 84,582.49 tons, and tuna with a total export of 54,195.79 tons," said Governor Khofifah after attending the inauguration of the Chancellor of IPB, Bogor, Tuesday (18/1).


Governor Khofifah further explained that based on Capture Fisheries Statistics data from the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office of East Java Province, total capture fisheries production in East Java in 2022 reached 598,317 tonnes. And this is the highest nationally exceeding areas in Eastern Indonesia. Such as Maluku with 551,846.2 tonnes, South Sulawesi 417,700.72 tonnes, North Sulawesi 366,738.21 tonnes, and North Maluku 361,499.65 tonnes. Still based on Diskanla Prov data. East Java, there are two leading capture fisheries commodities in East Java. Namely, tuna with production reaching 64,947.80 tons and lemuru fish with production reaching 70,284.83 tons. Not only capture fisheries production which has achieved satisfactory results, based on data from the Aquaculture Statistics Office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of East Java Province, aquaculture production in East Java is also the third highest nationally in 2022. The total aquaculture production reached 1,313,745.14 tons. On the island of Java itself, East Java is the highest aquaculture producer. There are three types of superior aquaculture commodities in East Java which achieve the highest production yields. The three commodities are milkfish with a production achievement of 170,319 tons, catfish with a production achievement of 136,435.89 tons, and vannamei shrimp with a production achievement of 103,949.74 tons. For this achievement, Governor Khofifah appreciates all stakeholders who have played an active role so that East Java's fisheries production continues to progress and increase. Fishermen and pond farmers are no exception who are at the forefront of strengthening food commodities in the fisheries sector. According to him, this achievement will be a good start for the momentum of economic recovery for the people of East Java after the Covid-19 Pandemic. As well as being the main capital for the realization of the priority program to increase food self-sufficiency in 2023.
