Bengkulu Has Potential for Direct CPO Exports

The Bengkulu Provincial Agricultural Quarantine Office said Bengkulu Province has the potential to export palm commodities such as crude palm oil (CPO) directly abroad. Head of the Bengkulu Provincial Agricultural Quarantine Office Bukhari in Bengkulu City, Monday (16/1/2023), said that currently CPO exports do not go through Pulau Baai Port, Bengkulu, but Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta. "The average export of palm oil from Bengkulu Province is through the Port of Tanjung Priok and none has gone through the Port of Pulau Baai," said Bukhari. He said that six CPO factories in North Bengkulu Regency were still selling CPO to domestic buyers before finally exporting it abroad via Tanjung Priok. One of the CPO companies in North Bengkulu Regency, namely PT Sandabi Indah Lestari (SIL) which is capable of producing as much as 51,720.6 tons of CPO annually, exports through the Port of Tanjung Priok. Therefore, the Bengkulu Provincial Agricultural Quarantine Office continues to coordinate with a number of CPO factories regarding the constraints that prevent exports from being carried out at Pulau Baai Port, so that export activities can be carried out directly from Bengkulu. "We will continue to coordinate with them and we will try to find solutions so that plantation commodities in Bengkulu can be exported directly abroad," said Bukhari.

In addition, the Bengkulu Agricultural Quarantine Gratieks Team continues to explore the export potential of palm oil commodities in Bengkulu. Previously, the Bengkulu Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said that the export value from January to October 2022 reached IDR 4 trillion. The export value in October 2022 increased by IDR 547 billion compared to October 2021 which was recorded at IDR 337 billion. "The export value in Bengkulu Province in 2022 continues to increase compared to the previous year and in October 2022 alone it reached more than IDR 547 billion," said BPS Head of Bengkulu Province Win Rizal. The high export value of Bengkulu is influenced by the demand for coal and palm shell commodities from ASEAN countries.
