The latest news from the Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan. The man who is familiarly called Zulhas plans to revise the textile import regulation.
The focus is on the regulation of raw materials to be tax-free
"What we want to fix is the regulation so that the raw materials are not taxable, if necessary the finished goods are taxable. So that local industries can develop and (do) export," Zulkifli told media crews at the Jakarta Presidential Palace Monday (16/1), Quoted from Antara.
Zulhas explained that the condition of the Textile and Textile Product (TTP) industry was in decline due to a flood of finished goods from abroad. Not only that, according to Zulhas, taxes on imports of raw materials have also contributed to the decline in the performance of the domestic TTP industry.
"I've studied, I found the problem where, if imports of raw materials for yarn etc., it's because there is anti-dumping, which we must cancel immediately, it is subject to tax," said Zulhas.
"So, if you want to (import) raw materials there is a tax, but if you import finished goods, there are no taxes of several types," he continued.
Zulhas added that the government is supporting the domestic textile industry so that it can compete, including encouraging exports.
"So later we don't tax the materials needed by the textile industry. If we are taxed, we can't export them because prices are already high, we can't compete," he said.
