Doubled, the Export Power of SMEs in Batu City Has Begun to Stretch

The export activities of MSME players in Batu City, East Java are starting to show a positive trend. This has started to be seen since the COVID-19 pandemic, which on the other hand has brought blessings. The increase is also quite significant. Information gathered, the export activities of business actors in the city of apples have doubled over the last two years. Initially, the export value for 2021 was only around IDR 6 billion. However, in 2022, the prize value will skyrocket to IDR 17.5 billion. Interestingly, the exporters this time were dominated by MSME players. This means that the world of exports is no longer played by one group only. But already started new players emerge. This was disclosed by the Head of the Trade Office of the Cooperatives, Micro Enterprises and Trade (Diskumdag) Batu City Nurbianto that the commodities contributing to the highest export figures in 2022 have experienced a shift. “So previously held by ornamental plants, now the highest export commodities are processed chips and snacks. Only the second is occupied by ornamental plants," explained Nurbianto, Tuesday (10/1/2023).

He explained that apart from processed chips, there were also other commodities that experienced an increase. However, on average, a drastic increase has occurred in processed chips. This increase could not be separated from the policy of easing export restrictions. "In contrast to 2021, there were many restrictions that caused exports to decline," he explained. Meanwhile, in 2023, Nurbianto targets his export power to also increase. His party predicts that Batu City's export value could reach IDR 20 billion. "Hopefully this year there will also be more new regulations that will make exports easier. Because we are also trying to help MSME actors so that more and more commodities from Batu City are exported abroad," he concluded. Finally, more than 1 ton of chip products belonging to UMKM in Batu City have been exported to Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei Darussalam. The Mayor of Batu City at that time, Dewanti Rumpoko even took part in dispatching 20 thousand packages of tempeh chips produced by PT. Arjuna Citra Indonesia. This is a separate record for MSMEs in Batu City after the economic downturn when hit by COVID-19. Head of the Batu City Diskumdag, Eko Suhartono said, the success of these MSME actors showed that the quality of Batu City products had been recognized internationally. "This is a positive thing for MSMEs, showing that MSMEs in Batu City can upgrade. Hopefully this can provide good for MSMEs in Batu City," said Eko.
