Early 2023, Foreign Capital Flows Entered IDR 8.05 Trillion

There was an inflow of foreign capital into the domestic financial market in early 2023. Based on transaction data compiled by Bank Indonesia (BI) for the period 2 January 2023 to 5 January 2023, non-residents on the domestic financial market recorded a net purchase of IDR 8.05 trillion. Executive Director, Head of the BI Communication Department Erwin Haryono said that foreign capital flows were monitored to enter the government securities (SBN) market, but foreign investors left the stock market. "Non-residents bought IDR 9.74 trillion net on the SBN market, but sold IDR 1.68 trillion net on the stock market," Erwin wrote in his statement, Friday (6/1). As foreign capital enters the domestic financial market, investment risk in Indonesia is observed to decrease. This can be seen from the 5-year Indonesian credit default swap (CDS) premium which fell to 95.01 bps as of 5 January 2023 from 101.23 bps as of 30 December 2023. With these developments, based on settlement data from early 2023 to 5 January 2023, non-residents bought IDR 6.68 trillion net on the SBN market and sold IDR 2.91 trillion net on the stock market.
