The Egyptian importers who are members of the Egyptian Coffee Companies have begun to realize the import of coffee beans as a follow-up to the contract at the Indonesian Trade Expo (TEI) which was held in October 2022. The importers include Haggag Co., Knoz El Bon and El Nada Co.
Chief Executive Officer of Haggag Co, Hasan Sayed Haggag, said coffee trading activities with Indonesia were also running smoothly with the support of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt. The Indonesian Embassy provides assistance on various problems encountered in the import process. As for Haggag Co, it has routinely imported robusta coffee products from Indonesia in the last two years. Indonesian Trade Attaché in Cairo, Egypt, Irman Adi Purwanto, said that the opportunity to export coffee to Egypt is wide open.
"This is due to the large tendency of Egyptian buyers to make processed and blended coffee flavors, both traditional, such as Turkish coffee and contemporary coffee, such as hazelnut, copcaramel, French coffee, chocolate coffee, and a mixture of spices with Indonesian Robusta coffee ingredients," he said in a press statement, Wednesday (3/2/2023). Imam hopes that coffee exporters targeting the Egyptian market will continue to pay attention to aspects of product quality assurance so that export products sent to Egypt really match demand.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, hopes that there will be an increase in imports of Indonesian coffee products. "This not only raises Robusta coffee but also raises Indonesian spices as an important supporting material for the coffee industry in Egypt," he said.
Based on BPS Egypt statistics (CAPMAS), Indonesia's coffee exports in the January-August 2022 period to Egypt reached US$67.54 million or Rp.1.05 trillion. This value increased by 32.78 percent compared to the same period in 2021 of US$50.87 million. Indonesian coffee products also dominate the Egyptian market, around 46.8 percent.
