President Joko Widodo or Jokowi officially revoked PPKM since December 30 2022, yesterday. This step is called a breath of fresh air for both domestic and foreign tourists. Chusmeru Tourism Observer said that the repeal of the PPKM could have a psychological effect on tourists. This means that it can be said that there will be an assumption that the status of Covid-19 in Indonesia is very under control. "Repealing the PPKM will have a significant impact on the tourism industry. This is related to the increasing mobility of the people. Likewise with the interest of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia, because it is considered a safe destination to visit," he told Liputan6.com, Saturday ( 31/12/2022).
Even so, Chusmeru views that the level of tourist visits is expected to move slowly in 2023. The reason is the global economic crisis that hit several countries and domestic economic conditions that have not fully recovered due to the pandemic. "If the government officially declares endemic, it will certainly have more of an impact on the tourism sector. Especially in the transportation, accommodation, tourist objects and attractions sector," he added. Besides that, he considered the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition (MICE) business to be promising after the repeal of PPKM. For example, exhibition activities, meetings, seminars to conferences which will be excited again because there are no restrictions on visitors. Then, it will have an impact on increasing the occupancy of hotels. Impact of increased visitors to the events earlier."Moreover, in 2023 Indonesia will enter a 'political year' after the KPU announces the results of the verification of political parties participating in the election. It is estimated that many activities such as campaigning, consolidation, and declarations will be carried out in hotels," he explained.
