The government is pushing for the implementation of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology on old oil and gas wells as well as on a field scale, to boost oil and gas production. This acceleration follows positive results in the EOR application with CO2 injection at Jtb-161 Well, Jatibarang Field, West Java and Gemah-6 Well, Gemah Field which is in the Jabung Working Area (WK), Jambi. Plt. SKK Migas Program and Communication Division Head, Mohammad Kemal, said that the application of EOR to a number of old oil and gas fields will continue in 2023. Next year, the implementation of EOR in the Jatibarang Field through CO2 injection will be added, through the practice of injecting CO2 gas into the Jtb-137 well to increase oil and gas production in fields whose reservoirs are starting to run low.
According to the plan for the CO2-EOR field trial stage, for the Jatibarang Field there will be 1 additional well that will inject in 2023, namely the Jtb-137 well," Kemal told Katadata.co.id via text message on Wednesday (28/12 ). Meanwhile, the addition of EOR applications with continued CO2 injection at the Gemah Field will be applied again to one additional well while looking at the results of the previous injection at the Gemah-6 Well. Apart from using CO2, EOR practices can also be applied by injecting water vapor, gas, microbiology to the injection of chemicals such as surfactants and polymers into oil and gas wells that have experienced a decline in production.
