Indonesian Fisheries Exports 2022 Increase 10.66 Percent

From 2022 to November, Indonesia's fishery exports recorded growth of 10.66 percent on an annual basis or year-on-year (yoy).
Plt. The Director General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Maritime and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Ishartini, reported that the value of fisheries exports for the January-November 2022 period reached US$5.71 billion, an increase of around US$0.55 billion (yoy). Meanwhile, the value of imports in the same period was only US$0.64 billion.
"Alhamdulillah, this means that there is still a surplus in the fishery products trade balance of US$5.07 billion (around 79.3 trillion rupiah)," said Ishartini in a written statement, Thursday (29/12/2022).
Indonesia's main export commodities include shrimp with a value of US$1,997.49 million, Tuna-Skipper-Tongkol US$865.73 million, Squid-Cutopus-Octopus of US$657.71 million, Seaweed of US$554.96 million, and the group crab-crab fish of US$450.55 million.
These favorite commodities were sent to major export destination countries such as the United States with a contribution to the export value of US$2.15 billion (37.63 percent), China US$1.02 billion (17.90 percent), Japan US$678.13 million ( 11.89 percent), ASEAN US$651.66 million (11.42 percent), and 27 European Union countries worth US$357.12 million (6.26 percent).

Ishartini said that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries managed to maintain market share in the main export destinations, even though the dynamics of global conditions, such as the Russia-Ukraine war had a major impact on Indonesia's fishery exports. KKP is also aggressively looking for other markets and is currently exploring prospective market destinations in the Middle East such as haj and umrah catering services in Saudi Arabia.
"We are looking for alternative opportunities other than established markets. This is of course a response to the global dynamics that have occurred since early 2022 which will certainly affect the smooth flow of goods," he said.
The achievement of the value of fisheries exports is expected to grow until December 2022 by 8.84 percent (yoy) with a value of US$ 6.22 billion. "Exports that are moving have also had a positive impact on investment interest in the marine and fisheries sector," said Ishartini.
Investment realization in the third quarter of 2022 reached IDR 6.39 trillion, an increase of 45.62 percent compared to the same period the previous year, where China was the largest country investing in the marine and fisheries sector.
"We estimate that investment realization will exceed IDR 7.78 trillion, an increase of 29.71 percent compared to the previous year in December 2022," he added.
However, Indonesia's fishery export performance is still far below Vietnam's. During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Indonesia's fishery product export ranking increased from the previous year, from 10th to 8th position, along with the export value which also increased from US$4.9 billion to US$5.2 billion.
Meanwhile, Vietnam in the last 5 years has been in 3rd place in world fishery exports, although its value has decreased every year.
In 2021, exports of Indonesian fishery products will continue to increase by 17 percent (yoy) to US$5.72 billion. However, his ranking was observed to fall to 11th position. The target is that with increasing productivity, Indonesia's fishery export performance can enter the top 5 in the world.
Reach 1.79 Trillion

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), recorded Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) for the fisheries sector which reached IDR 1.79 trillion throughout 2022.
The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, revealed that this achievement was a temporary value and had exceeded the 2022 target of IDR 1.67 trillion (107 percent of the target).
“We try with the existing conditions, and do our best. This year, PNBP from fisheries has increased to IDR 1.79 trillion,” said Trenggono.
The details of the provisional PNBP of IDR 1.79 trillion come from fishery natural resources (SDA) of IDR 1.1 trillion, non-SDA IDR 611.8 billion, and BLU IDR 44.3 billion. This acquisition made history as the largest PNBP of KKP since its establishment in 1999.
Meanwhile, the volume of fishery production until the third quarter of 2022 reached 18.45 million tons consisting of 5.97 million tons of catches, 5.57 tons of aquaculture products and 6.9 million tons of seaweed. Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), was boosting the shrimp production target of 2 million tons in 2024. "In the future we want to create a modern area-based cultivation area for shrimp commodities," he said.
