The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) strengthens the capacity of Fisheries Supervisors in West Papua Province. This is done to increase the effectiveness of supervision of fishery resources in West Papua Province which has a very large conservation area but the availability of human resources (HR) for supervision is still limited.
"Effective supervision is needed to protect the wealth of marine and fishery resources in West Papua," said the Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision (PSDKP), Rear Admiral TNI Adin Nurawaluddin, M. Han.
Adin explained that several main components were needed to strengthen supervision of fishery resources in the regions, namely the existence of legal instruments in the form of Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) and regional regulations, budget support, facilities and infrastructure, as well as supervisory institutions and qualified Human Resources (HR). .
In this regard, KKP is committed to continuing to encourage the strengthening of the supervisory function in the regions, one of which is by developing the capacity and capability of the Fisheries Supervisor.
"In accordance with the direction of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, KKP is committed to continuing to assist the Regional Government in strengthening supervision in order to create sustainable marine and fisheries resources," said Adin.
Meanwhile, the Director of Fisheries Resources Management Supervision, Drama Panca Putra stated that after the issuance of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, the business licensing process was made easier, so it is necessary to strengthen the oversight system for the implementation of business activities to ensure that business actors in the field fisheries comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
"Through this training, it is hoped that the participants will understand more and more that supervision is carried out not only to control the use of fish resources, but also to foster business actors in the fisheries sector, besides that fisheries supervision is an integral part of fisheries management," said Drama.
Fisheries Superintendent Technical Training for Regional Government Apparatuses of West Papua Province is a collaborative program between the Directorate General of PSDKP and the Sukamandi Apparatus Training Center (BDA) supported by the GEF 6 Coastal Fisheries Initiative – Indonesia Chiled Project (CFI-ICP) grant program which has a focus on optimizing the potential of marine and fisheries resources while protecting and improving habitats and ecosystems in WPPNRI 715, 717 and 718.
For 6 (six) days, from 12 to 17 December 2022, as many as 30 (thirty) participants who are Fisheries Supervisors from West Papua Province, PSDKP Tual Base and PSDKP Biak Station will take part in learning and training activities in the form of sharpening the substance of supervision of aquaculture businesses fish, supervising the business of processing and distributing fishery products, supervising fishing vessels, supervising the management of marine resources, and handling violations in the maritime and fishery sector. Efforts to strengthen supervision were continuously carried out by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries during the era of Minister Trenggono. Apart from synergizing with the regions and other relevant agencies, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will also continue to strengthen surveillance facilities and technology as well as improve human resources.
